Our Carbon Reduction Commitment (Net Zero by 2050)

The Thatch Dental Practice is committed to reducing our environmental impact and delivering high-quality dental care in a more sustainable way. We publicly commit to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.

This commitment applies across our current and future locations.

What We Measure

We will monitor and reduce emissions from:

  • Energy use (electricity and heating)

  • Waste and recycling, including clinical waste

  • Dental materials and supply chain impacts

  • Staff and business travel

  • Water use

We will review progress annually and update this page.

Our Targets

From our 2026 baseline, we aim to reduce our total emissions by:

  • 10% by 2030

  • 25% by 2035

  • 50% by 2040

  • Net Zero by 2050

What We Are Doing (Practical Actions)

Energy & Buildings

  • Switching to LED lighting and using motion sensors where appropriate

  • Improving heating controls and reducing unnecessary energy use

  • Moving to renewable electricity tariffs where available

  • Designing new premises with sustainability in mind (efficient heating/insulation)

Waste & Materials

  • Reducing waste and improving segregation to minimise clinical waste

  • Cutting unnecessary single-use items where clinically safe

  • Increasing use of digital processes to reduce paper use

Travel

  • Encouraging digital meetings to reduce business travel

  • Supporting practical options such as car-sharing and appointment planning to reduce repeat journeys

Water

  • Installing water-efficient fittings and monitoring usage

Green Impact Dentistry

We will use the Green Impact Dentistry framework to guide and evidence our progress, working towards:

  • Bronze (within 12 months)

  • Silver (within 3 years)

  • Gold (by 2035)

Governance & Transparency

We will appoint a Sustainability Lead, review progress through our governance processes, and publish annual updates. Where offsetting is used, it will only be considered after we have taken all reasonable steps to reduce emissions first, and only through verified schemes.
